Parke County Pancakes and Pork Sausage

PancakesYesterday we made our pilgrimage to Parke County for the annual Maple Fair for a late breakfast, and found everything at the 4-H Fairgrounds to be just as we expected. There were lots of locally-produced crafts and art for sale (if you're in the market for a painting of a covered bridge or a rusty truck in front of an old barn, you'd have plenty to choose from), and the no-frills, cafeteria-style food was perfect in its own way. The pancakes were light and fluffy ($5 for all you can eat!), the sausage was flavorful, and the maple syrup complemented both. And with the possible exception of the butter, everything was locally produced and could be purchased to go — the stone ground pancake mix from the mill in Bridgton, the sausage from a local farmer, and the maple syrup from several sources.

The day would have been perfect, except for one thing. It's time for me to head out now though, so I'll save that story for a little later.
